| Le Beau Danube...

Danube, Bratislava
...und treuer, deutscher Sinn streut
aus seine Saat von hier weithin
.

[ENG] "Le beau Danube"... The Riverboats on Danube always make me melancholic... There is always a sense of a separation and a loss... Maybe the reason is the color of Danube... Really, do you know that, in 1924, the famous music of Johann Strauss II, "An der schönen blauen Donau op. 314", together with other music peaces of him, were assembled in a pastiche by choreographer Leonide Massine and conductor Roger Desormière to be used for the ballet "Le beau Danube"? This ballet is a mix of comedy and drama... A young Hussar is engaged with the eldest daughter of an aristocratic family... While making a walk in the gardens of Vienna, the Hussar and his fiancee see a dancer who was Hussar's old love affair... The Dancer makes a jealous scene... The fiancee, not used in such situations, faints... In order not to be outdone, the Dancer pretends that she faints too... The fiancee is carried away from the scene by her family... The Hussar remains alone with the Dancer... The old love seems to grow again... The two of them start to dance... Slower at first, but then quicker and quicker... The fiancee appears in the scene again... She bravely claims again the Hussar... The Hussar is surprised by her courage and repudiates the Dancer... The Dancer understands that she lost and leaves the scene making a gesture that proves that her interest to the Hussar was not so strong actually... [1.][2.][3.]
