Τι κι αν ο Λόρκα έγραψε τον "Ματωμένο Γάμο"; Η φύση έχει φτιάξει τον εντυπωσιακό δικό της "Πέτρινο Γάμο", στο Зимзелен (Ζιμζέλεν), ένα μικρό χωριό στην νότια Βουλγαρία, πολύ κοντά στην πόλη Кърджали (Κάρντζαλι). Η δημιουργία αυτή της φύσης είναι γνωστή και ως ο "Απωλιθωμένος Γάμος".
Υπάρχει ένας θρύλος στην περιοχή που σχετίζεται με αυτό το δημιούργημα της φύσης... Σύμφωνα με αυτόν, ένας όμορφος νεαρός άνδρας αγαπούσε μια νεαρή κοπέλα από ένα κοντινό χωριό. Επειδή, όμως, η κοπέλα φορούσε πάντα μαντήλα, το αγόρι είχε δει μόνο τα μάτια της, ποτέ το πρόσωπό της, όπως, άλλωστε, επέβαλαν τα τοπικά έθιμα. Την αγαπούσε τόσο πολύ που είχε αρρωστήσει από τον πόνο. Ο πατέρας του, για να σώσει τον γιο του, πήγε στην οικογένεια της κοπέλας και την αγόρασε, σύμφωνα με τα έθιμα που ίσχυαν εκείνες τις εποχές, δίνοντας πολύ χρυσό. Οι επισκέπτες του γάμου πήραν το κορίτσι και ξεκίνησαν για το χωριό. Καβάλα σε ένα μουλάρι, η νύφη σκεφτόταν το πατρικό της σπίτι, αλλά ήταν ευτυχισμένη που θα παντρευόταν τον νεαρό άνδρα. Δίπλα περπάταγε ο πατέρας με το γιο του και όλους τους καλεσμένους του γάμου. Καθώς πηγαίνανε, μια ξαφνική ριπή του ανέμου φύσηξε μακριά την μαντήλα της νύφης. Ο πατέρας του γαμπρού εντυπωσιάστηκε από την ομορφιά της κοπέλας. Αμέσως πονηρές σκέψεις μπήκαν στο μυαλό του. Ο άνεμος το κατάλαβε και έγινε έξαλλος. Μια καταιγίδα ξεκίνησε και στη συνέχεια έγινε το κακό: η νύφη μετατράπηκε σε πέτρα. Το ίδιο και ο πατέρας του γαμπρού με όλους τους καλεσμένους του γάμου... Ο σοκαρισμένος νεαρός πολύ σύντομα άρχισε να κλαίει και παρακαλεί την καταιγίδα να τον μετατρέψει και αυτόν σε πέτρα... Έτσι και έγινε... Μετατράπηκε σε πέτρα, αλλά ακόμη και σήμερα, υπάρχει μια λακκούβα με νερό μπροστά του...
Σε σχέση με τον θρύλο, δεν πρέπει να ξεχνάμε ότι η περιοχή του Κάρντζαλι, όπου βρίσκεται το χωριό, το μουσουλμανικό στοιχείο είναι κυρίαρχο...

According to it, a handsome young man fell in love with a charming lass from the near-by village. But - because she always wore a head cloth - he had only seen her eyes; he had never seen her face because of the local customs. He loved her so much that he became ill from the pain. His father was so worried for his son that he went to the girl's family to save his son's life. He bought her - according to the customs that existed those days - for a lot of gold. The wedding guests took the lass and set off for Zimzelen. Riding a mule, the bride was thinking about her parental home but she was happy to marry the young man. The father-in-law walked next to her with his son and all the wedding guests. As they passed through the clear stream, a sudden gust of wind blew away the bride's head cloth. The father-in-law saw her face and he was impressed by her beauty. Immediately evil thoughts entered his mind. The wind understood him and got furious. A storm began and then the worst thing happened: the bride turned into stone. After her, the father-in-law and the wedding guests were turned into stone too. The young man could only stand in the terror and agony of the moment, but soon he began to wail and begged the storm to turn him into stone too. So it happened. He turned into stone but even today, there's a puddle shining in front of him [Source].

The gently-sloping, green hill immediately next to the rock formations was one of the shooting locations used for the film and one of the few places where an artificial set was built. Although the outdoor bathtub of the goat’s human companion that was placed there during filming is no longer there, the large rocks’ human shapes give the scenery a permanent surreal feel.
