Το ξύλινο ξίφος που κρατάνε πλέον οι Кукерите (Κουκέριτε) είναι η εξέλιξη των φαλλών που κράταγαν στα χέρια τους στα δρώμενα παλαιότερων εποχών... Άλλωστε το Κούκερι έχει ως σκοπό την εξασφάλιση της γονιμότητας και προέρχεται κατευθείαν από τις τελετές της Διονυσιακής Λατρείας, όπου ο φαλλός αντιπροσωπεύει ακριβώς αυτό, την γονιμότητα...

Με βάση τις παραδόσεις, αν μια άτεκνη γυναίκα την ακουμπήσει το ξύλινο ξίφος ενός μασκοφόρου του Κούκερι, τότε την ίδια χρονιά θα αποκτήσει παιδί...
